Why overflowing gutters matter

When gutters overflow or leak, water runs down the face of the wall. Over time that leads to damp inside, damaged brickwork and render, and stained walls. Blocked gutters can also back water up under the bottom row of slates or tiles. In the North West's wet climate, keeping gutters clear and sound is one of the simplest ways to protect a building.

Checking the roof edge

When we replace a fascia, we check the felt or membrane at the eaves and the bottom courses of the roof. Rotten fascias often hide problems at the roof edge that are best dealt with while the gutters are off.
