Chimney Repairs across Manchester and Cheshire
Chimney stacks take the full force of wind and rain, and many in the region are well over a century old. We repair chimneys on homes and other buildings across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, stopping damp and keeping stacks secure.

Chimney repairs we carry out
- Repointing worn or crumbling mortar joints
- Renewing the flaunching, the mortar around the pots on top of the stack
- Replacing lead flashings where the stack meets the roof
- Replacing cracked or loose chimney pots
- Fitting cowls, bird guards and caps to unused flues
- Repairs to the roof covering around the stack
Damp on chimney breasts
Damp patches on a chimney breast, especially after rain, usually point to water getting in at the top or sides of the stack: through failed flaunching, porous brickwork or mortar, or worn flashing. Unused flues that are open to the weather can also let rain in. We inspect the whole stack before recommending repairs.
Unused chimneys
If a fireplace is no longer used, the flue can be capped to keep out rain and birds, while still allowing some ventilation to prevent condensation inside the flue.
Access
Most chimney work needs safe access, which may mean scaffolding or a chimney scaffold. If it does, it will be included and explained in your quote.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my chimney breast damp?
Common causes are failed flaunching, worn flashings, porous brickwork and open, unused flues. We find the cause before recommending a repair.
Do I need scaffolding for chimney repairs?
Usually, yes, for safe working at the top of the stack. The type of access depends on the roof and the chimney's position.
