The streets around Warrington town centre, Latchford, Orford and Bewsey have Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, built during the town's industrial growth in wire-making, brewing and chemicals. After Warrington was designated a New Town in 1968, large districts such as Birchwood, Westbrook, Callands and Padgate were developed with estates of family homes.
